Fiber optic light sensors

Fiber optic light sensors are used when object detection is to be carried out using the reflection principle under harsh environmental conditions such as high temperatures, pollution, etc. or the detection point is difficult to access or large working distances are required.

Sensorik Austria - Fiber optic light sensor

Working principle:

Fiber optic light sensors consist of a light sensor (EFS series or FSP60 series) and a fiber optic, which (usually) consists of an arm.

The sensor is placed in an unexposed area and the light signal is directed to the measuring point using fiber optics. If the object is not present, the light beam goes into the void; if it is present, the reflected light is returned to the sensor and a switching process is triggered.

The fiber optics can be supplied with different protective tubes depending on the environmental conditions and are available with axial (straight) or radial (angled) light emission.

Thanks to the opening angle of the fibers, fiber optic light sensors have a large measuring spot and are therefore not influenced by local irregularities in the detection object.

With fiber-optic buttons, we also offer you the option of monitoring the status of the sensor system during operation using intensity evaluation and outputting it as an alarm or trend signal - which is particularly important since our systems are usually used in challenging applications.
