Fiber optics: Length matters!

In contrast to those light guides that are used in data transmission, sensor light guides do not transport data, but only light intensities.

For demanding industrial applications, fiber optics are used, which consist of fiber bundles that can withstand mechanical stress or the risk of breakage better than thick individual fibers and thus achieve a longer service life. Large bundle diameters enable the required high light throughput even over longer distances. Depending on the operating conditions, the fiber bundles are configured in robust protective jackets that are suitable for the desired temperature and/or breakage resistance or moisture or liquid tightness.

In many cases, fiber optics (or light guides) make it possible to carry out measurement tasks: they direct light signals to and from measuring points that would be inaccessible to electronic devices due to high temperatures, pollution, humidity, etc. or the spatial conditions.

Especially in industrial environments, large distances often have to be overcome before the environmental conditions are suitable for the electronics again. And light guides with lengths of 5 meters or more are our specialty - you can only get robust fiber optics with lengths of up to 25 m from us!
