Fibre-optic reflectance sensors

Fibre-optic reflectance sensors are used for object recognition under harsh environmental conditions such as high temperatures, pollution etc. or when the detection point is difficult to access or large working distances are required.

Operating principle:

A fibre-optic reflectance sensor consist of a reflectance sensor (EFS series or FSP60 series) and a fibre optic cable, which (mostly) consists of one arm.

The sensor is placed in a non-exposed area and the light signal is guided to the measuring point by use of the light guide. Only when the object is present, the light rays will be reflected to the sensor and a switching operation be triggered.

Depending on the operating conditions, fibre optic cables can be supplied with different accessories – lenses or protective tubes and glasses and are available with axial (straight) or radial (angled) light emission.

Thanks to the numerical aperture of the fibres, fibre-optic reflectance sensors have a large measuring spot and are therefore not affected by local irregularities of the measuring object.

For fibre-optic reflectance sensors we also offer you an option of monitoring the status of the sensor system during operation by means of intensity evaluation and outputting it as an alarm or a trend signal (FSP 60-sensors only) – which is particularly important as our systems are usually used in challenging applications.

Your advantages:

  • contactless
  • measuring ranges up to more than 2 m
  • fibre optic lengths up to 25 m
  • particularly robust
  • for temperatures up to 200 °C, special versions up to 400 °C
  • also for ATEX environments
