Sensors for Object Recognition

Sensors for object recognition are used in numerous industrial surroundings and processes. Worldwide this industrial sensor technology belongs to the most used ones. Optical measuring technologies play a role in many areas of application and come into operation when needing to monitor contactless and when the sensor can’t be placed in direct proximity to the object to be measured.

And under demanding application conditions fiber optical sensors from Sensorik Austria come into play: no matter if the measuring point isn´t easily accessible, is characterized by harsh or extreme conditions, or if great working distances need to be managed – the application possibilities are versatile.

If not only attendance has to be checked but also the properties of an object, Sensorik Austria is your right choice: in our assortment you find not only sensors to detect objects according to their colours but also the world’s first industrial sensors for material detection. Extensive application possibilities for object recognition

Optical sensors in the field of object recognition work on five different working principles:

    • Reflectance sensors

These sensors work with light reflection: emitter end receiver are built into one device. The receiver unit measures the intensity of the sent and reflected light beam. Is the preset threshold exceeded, the presence of the measured object is deduced and a switching process is triggered. The sensor works basically ona bright-dark switch principle. In combination with suitable light guides also fiber optical reflectance sensors can be realized to work in difficultly accessible areas, rough surroundings or ATEX-environments. • Passive sensors

In light barriers the emitter and receiver unit are placed separately and opposite of each other – in normal condition the light beam sent from the emitter unit is received by the opposing receiver unit, forming the so-called light barrier. As soon as the light beam is disrupted by an object, the receiver doesn’t receive light anymore and triggersthe switching process.

Light barriers again can, depending the specific application, be built with or without fiber optics. In both cases our products feature extremely high sensing ranges!

    • Collision prevention sensors

Our sensors to prevent collision of EOT cranes are a specialty among optical sensors: They function contrary to light barriers, are open during operating mode and only close when two cranes are getting in too close proximity to each other. Our collision preventionsensors stand out due to self-monitoring and especially large ranges.

    • Reflective light barriers

For the sake of completeness these types should also be mentioned here. They resemble a reflectance sensor that builds up a light barrier with the help of an opposing reflector or mirror. Because of the vulnerability of the reflectors to contamination or high temperatures we don’t offer such.
